Governor's Prevention Advisory Council (GPAC) Meeting - July 18,2008  NEW!
At its July quarterly meeting, the Council will discuss various ATOD prevention efforts, including its strategic planning process, its workgroups’ activities, and an update on the implementation of the federal grant program (California Screening, Brief Intervention, Referral and Treatment Grant Program), which the Council oversees.

ADP Spring 2008 Conference
The next Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs Conference is scheduled for June 18-20, 2008 at Hyatt Regency Burlingame Hotel. This year’s conference theme is "Implementing a Comprehensive Continuum of Services: Beyond Tradition – Creating Synergy". Building on the September 2006 Conference we will be looking at best practices and strategies that will help us implement a comprehensive continuum of Prevention, Treatment, and Recovery Support services.

The Substance Abuse Research Consortium
The SARC meeting offers an opportunity for professionals interested in substance abuse research information from a variety of disciplines to exchange current information on California substance abuse trends, research data on promising prevention and treatment strategies, criminal justice and social service partnerships, and other substance abuse-related topics.

Office of Women’s and Perinatal Services
Director Renée Zito has announced an expansion of the previous Office of Perinatal Substance Abuse (OPSA) as the beginning of many enhancements to improve alcohol and other drug (AOD) services for women of all ages, their children, and their families.

“All women seeking services deserve to have the kind of gender-responsive, trauma-informed services that the best perinatal programs have been providing for years.”

Drug Medi-Cal Monthly Summary Invoice (ADP 1592)  NEW!
The Drug Medi-Cal Monthly Summary Invoice, ADP 1592 has been revised to include each provider's national provider identifier (NPI); the form is available for download in an Excel and in an Acrobat PDF file. The ADP 1592 Invoice is required by Alcohol and Drug Programs (ADP) to summarize and support the Drug Medi-Cal (DMC) claims for reimbursement.

Counselor Certification Advisory Committee Meeting - July 2008 meeting scheduled.
There will be a Counselor Certification Advisory Committee Meeting held on July 30, 2008, from 9:30a.m. to 3:00p.m.

Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities (SDFSC) Grant Awards Announced
ADP has completed its review of the Applications for SDFSC grant funding, 18 applications have been chosen for award

FREE Problem Gambling Toolkit
The toolkit contains basic problem gambling screening, assessment, referral and treatment information and was developed by the National Council on Problem Gambling and the Association of Problem Gambling Service Administrators.

Calendar Year 2006 CalOMS-Tx Outcome Reports
Outcome data from the California Outcomes Measurement System is now available.  Four types of reports make up the outcome data and are based on client admissions, discharges and change in clients’ condition between admission and discharge.  Access the web page of the Office of Applied Research and Analysis and click on "CalOMS Treatment Reports 2006" to view the reports.

2008 National Conference on Problem Gambling
The National Council on Problem Gambling and the California Council on Problem Gambling are bringing you to beautiful Southern California for the 22nd Annual Conference On Problem Gambling. The conference will provide training and the latest research on the prevention and treatment of problem gambling, co-occurring disorders and public awareness.

The Impact of Gambling on Los Angeles Asian Communities
With the support of California’s Office of Problem Gambling (OPG), the UCLA Gambling Studies Program (UGSP) analyzed data to determine the impact of problem gambling on Asian Pacific Islanders (API) who live in Los Angeles.  
Some key findings include:

  • Regional studies indicated that APIs have a higher rate of problem gambling as compared to the general population.
  • This rate ranges from 10% up to 50% in some studies. It was found that 15% Chinese American adults could be classified as problem gamblers and 21% as pathological gamblers. (NICOS Chinese Health Coalition)
  • San Francisco Chinatown residents identified problem gambling as the number one social concern (70% of the respondents). (NICOS Chinese Health Coalition)
