The types of services listed in this Directory are defined as follows:

ACCESSIBLE TO DISABLED

The facility can be easily used, and services and information are provided in a meaningful way to disabled persons. Disabilities that can be accommodated are indicated as follows: Mobility Impairment, Vision Impairment, Hearing or Speech Impairment, Cognitive Impairment.

AFTERCARE

Structured services offered to an individual who has completed treatment, typically for a set period of time (e.g., six months) to ensure successful recovery.

CLIENTS MAY BRING CHILDREN

Accommodations are provided for children while parent is receiving services.

COMMUNITY DROP-IN CENTER

A program which provides alternative activities, information, referral, outreach, community organization, and other services to individuals on a drop-in or scheduled basis.

CONSULTATION SERVICES TO EMPLOYERS

Assist employers to assure an alcohol and drug free work place. May include: Employee Assistance Program, peer assistance, case management, family assistance, wellness program, quality management, policy development, training, etc.

COUNSELING

Counseling is provided on a scheduled on-going basis, by a professional or trained paraprofessional counselor, or in a staffed and structured support group, including individual, group or family.

CULTURALLY-SPECIFIC PROGRAMS

The facility has a program designed to serve the specific needs of the ethnic group(s) indicated: African Americans, Asian/Pacific Islanders (includes bilingual services, Latino-Hispanics (includes bilingual services), Native Americans.

DETOXIFICATION (NON-MEDICAL)

A service designed to support and assist an individual in the withdrawal process, without medication or medical care; explore plans for continued services.

DRIVING-UNDER-THE-INFLUENCE PROGRAM

An education and counseling program for persons who have a driving or boating violation involving alcohol and/or other drugs. Programs are supported by participant fees.

DUAL DIAGNOSED

Alcohol and other drug treatment/recovery services are offered to persons who also have been diagnosed with severe and persistent mental illness.

GENDER ACCOMODATIONS

The facility is designed to accommodate: men, women or trans-gender.

HOSPITAL INPATIENT

Services are provided by a licensed hospital facility. Patients are hospitalized and treated primarily for an alcohol and/or drug abuse problem.

MEDICAL DETOXIFICATION

Treatment which involves a period of planned withdrawal from alcohol or other drug dependency under the supervision of medical personnel. Medication may be prescribed (including methadone detoxification). Counseling and supportive services are also provided.

NARCOTIC REPLACEMENT THERAPY (MAINTENANCE)

A program which is licensed by the State Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs, or is operated by the federal government, to administer LAAM, methadone or any other approved narcotic to opiate addicts on a continuing basis (i.e., longer than 21 days).

OUTPATIENT/NONRESIDENTIAL OR INTENSIVE OUTPATIENT/DAY PROGRAM

Services are provided to persons who reside outside the facility, maintain an individual recovery plan, and attend regularly scheduled counseling or group sessions: OUTPATIENT/NONRESIDENTIAL-once or more per month, INTENSIVE OUTPATIENT/DAY/PROGRAM-two or more hours per day for three or more days per week.

PREVENTION

Addresses individuals, the settings in which they live, and the larger community with activities to promote health and reduce the occurrence of problems associated with consumption of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.

RESIDENTIAL/RECOVERY HOME

The facility provides food, shelter, and recovery services, on a 24-hour basis, for persons with alcohol and/or other drug abuse problems. Hospitals are not included in this category.

RELAPSE PREVENTION

Helps persons identify and avoid high risk situations that can lead to lapses and relapses. It can help participants develop coping skills, make life style changes and increase healthy choices.

SELF-HELP GROUPS

Support groups or fellowships organized by and for alcoholics or drug abusers to help members achieve and maintain abstinence.

SPECIAL PROGRAM FOR WOMEN

The facility has a program designed and operated specifically for women, pregnant women, or women with dependent children. The program and staff are sensitive to the needs of women.

SPECIAL PROGRAMS

The facility has staff who are sensitive to the needs of the special population and a program which provides services and information in a meaningful way to the population(s) indicated: Youth/Adolescents (under 19); Aging (65 and over); AIDS/HIV-Positive; Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, or Trans-gender; Parolee, Criminal Justice Population.
