April 28 Medication-Assisted Treatment Training and Educational Symposium The purpose of this training (co-sponsored by COMP and the PSATTC and hosted by Contra Costa Health Services) is to provide participants with an overview of the medical issues of methadone patients, dual diagnosis and medication-assisted treatment, and administrative and counseling strategies to enhance treatment practices in a narcotic treatment program. May 23 Youth In Focus: Conducting Youth-Led Focus Groups Youth In Focus: Conducting Youth-Led Focus Groups This Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities grantee workshop will provide strategies and facilitation skills for young people conducting focus groups in their communities. Participants will receive a brief overview of the science behind evaluation techniques coupled with an in-depth training on how to develop and implement a youth-led evaluation plan using focus group facilitation. June 5-8 NASADAD/NPN/NTN Annual Meeting The 2008 NASADAD/NPN/NTN Annual Meeting is the only annual national gathering of the members of the National Association of State Alcohol and Drug Abuse Directors (NASADAD), the National Prevention Network (NPN) and the National Treatment Network (NTN). June 11-12 Beyond Trauma: A Healing Journey for Women This training will be conducted by Stephanie Covington, Ph.D. This two day training is designed to add to the understanding of the treatment needs of chemically dependent women by helping them recover from the impact of trauma in their lives. The curriculum focuses on the kinds of created suffering that women are most at risk of experiencing: childhood abuse, rape, battering, and other forms of interpersonal violence. Beyond Trauma represents an integrated approach to women's treatment, based on theory, research, and clinical experience. It can be used in any setting (outpatient, residential, therapeutic community, criminal justice or private practice.) Treatment teams including administration, board of directors, clinical directors and/or counseling staff are encouraged to attend and will be given priority for registration.
